Coalition members attend the Wisconsin Disability Awareness Day at the State Capitol in Madison every 2 years. This trip is co-sponsored by UCP of West Central Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Council on Developmental Disabilities, and grants. Prior to the trip, members write letters regarding relevant issues. Contact is made with Legislators, appointments are set up and letters delivered. Discussion on the groups’ concerns is held with legislative staff. Members also attend a rally held in the Capitol Rotunda.Transportation
The Coalition, in collaboration with the Center for Independent Living and the Office on Aging, has developed a Volunteer Driver Program for people with disabling conditions who live in St. Croix County. While most of the trips are for medical reasons, we can also transport people for social or recreational activities, shopping, visiting family/friends, etc. Rides are set up by calling Joan toll-free at 1-877-595-7283 at least 2 days in advance of the trip.
